38th Haryana State Junior Athletics Championship Kicks Off at Karnal’s Karan Stadium

Sep 27, 2025 | Haryana

The rhythmic thud of sprinting feet and the flight of javelins dominated the atmosphere at Karan Stadium today as Haryana’s premier junior athletic meet got underway. The championship is not just a quest for medals but a critical gateway for aspiring Olympians to enter the national sporting ecosystem.

  • Selection for Nationals: The top performers from this state-level meet will be selected to represent Haryana at the 40th National Junior Athletics Championships scheduled to be held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Given Haryana’s consistent record of winning the overall trophy at the National level, the competition at the state level is often described as “tougher than the Nationals.”

Khelo India Talent Scouting: For the first time, the event saw a coordinated presence of scouts from the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and the state sports department. These scouts are monitoring specific disciplines like Sprints, Shot Put, and Long Jump to shortlist athletes for the Khelo India Rising Talent Identification (KIRTI) program, which provides world-class coaching and financial stipends.

  • Key Day 1 Highlights:

    • Under-20 Boys 100m: A photo-finish final saw athletes from Sonipat and Rohtak clocking sub-11 second timings.

    • Javelin Throw: Continuing the state’s legacy in this discipline, several Under-18 throwers crossed the 65-meter mark, catching the eyes of technical officials.

  • Modernized Entry System: Athletics Haryana utilized a fully online registration system for the 38th edition to ensure transparency and prevent age-fudging, a common issue in junior sports. Every athlete was required to present biometric-linked IDs before their events.
