ROPAR – Ropar Police on Thursday confirmed the arrest of Dilsher Singh, a retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) from the Chandigarh Police, in connection with the shooting of AAP leader Nitin Nanda in Agampur village, Anandpur Sahib, yesterday afternoon.
Ropar SSP Gulneet Singh Khurana confirmed that Dilsher Singh was apprehended from Ropar while he was attempting to go to the local court. The police have launched raids to nab the other accused named in the case, including the retired DSP’s brothers.
According to the statement filed by the victim’s brother, Hari Kishan, the incident took place around 2 pm while Nitin Nanda was attending a wedding lunch. The complaint alleges that Dilsher Singh, accompanied by his wife and associates—Ran Bahadur, Ram Singh, and Dr. Ajay Rana—opened fire, with one bullet striking Nitin Nanda in the back of his head. The assailants subsequently fled the scene in a car parked near the Vishwakarma temple after firing multiple rounds into the air.
Hari Kishan’s statement links the violent attack to a significant financial dispute. He alleged that his brother had given Rs 1 crore as earnest money to Dilsher Singh for a land transaction that ultimately did not materialize. The dispute over the land deal is currently pending in court, and the shooting is being viewed by the family as an attempt on Nitin Nanda’s life due to the ongoing legal battle.
The police have registered a case at the Anandpur Sahib Police Station under Sections 109, 351(2), 191(3), and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant sections of the Arms Act (25, 27, 54, 59), against all named accused. Further investigation is underway to establish the precise sequence of events and arrest the absconding accomplices.
