TARN TARAN – Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday intensified his attack on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, claiming that Power Minister Sanjeev Arora is orchestrating corruption within the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to collect funds for the party’s high command.
Addressing a public meeting in Tarn Taran in support of SAD candidate Principal Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, Badal alleged that the minister was forcing PSPCL to undertake a series of dubious activities:
- Selling off prime land.
- Manipulating tenders for financial gain.
- Posting tainted officials on key departmental positions.
CMD Transferred Over Refusal: Badal claimed that the corruption efforts led directly to the transfer of PSPCL CMD AK Sinha. “PSPCL CMD AK Sinha had been transferred after he refused to implement ‘illegal orders’ related to 2,000 MW power purchase agreement,” Badal asserted, linking the top official’s sudden move to the alleged pressure from the minister.
Misuse of Police Ahead of Bypoll: The SAD chief also accused the AAP government of misusing the state machinery, specifically the police force, to target opposition workers ahead of the Tarn Taran bypoll. Badal stated that the party’s complaint to the Election Commission had been acted upon, resulting in the transfer of DSPs Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Jagjit Singh, along with SHO Gurdeep Singh, for allegedly aiding AAP candidate Harmeet Sandhu.
Badal’s allegations underscore the ongoing political friction between the SAD and the ruling AAP, focusing primarily on issues of governance integrity and political interference in the state’s administration.
