Responding to widespread public outrage over the deteriorating condition of roads during the monsoon season, the Haryana government launched a massive infrastructure rehabilitation drive on July 26. In a high-level meeting, the administration announced a mega-project to repair and recarpet approximately 6,500 kilometers of damaged roads across the state.
๐ง “Mission Pothole-Free Haryana” Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini acknowledged the “monsoon misery” faced by commuters and directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to work on a war footing.
-
The Target: The project covers 6,500 km of state highways, district roads, and village link roads that have been severely potholed by heavy rains.
-
Zero Tolerance: The CM issued strict instructions to officials, stating that any negligence in quality would result in immediate suspension. “We want long-lasting roads, not just quick-fix patchworks,” he emphasized.
๐ฃ๏ธ Prioritizing Critical Routes
-
Connectivity Focus: Priority will be given to roads connecting agricultural belts to main highways, ensuring smooth transport for farmers ahead of the harvest season.
-
Timeline: The PWD has been given a strict deadline to complete the major repairs before the onset of winter, with a special task force set up to monitor progress weekly.
๐ฐ Tackling the “Bad Road” Crisis This announcement comes as a relief to residents in districts like Ambala, Karnal, and Rohtak, where civic activists had recently highlighted the dangerous state of roads on social media. The government has assured that sufficient funds have been released to ensure no work stops due to budget constraints.
