Preparations for the world’s largest celebration of the Bhagavad Gita have officially moved into high gear. In a meeting chaired by senior officials of the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB) and the state administration, the roadmap for the 2025 edition was unveiled, highlighting the event’s growing diplomatic significance.

  • Strategic Partnership: The selection of Mauritius as the partner country for 2025 is a nod to the deep-rooted “Sanatan” ties between India and the island nation. Mauritius has a significant Indian diaspora that actively promotes Vedic values. The partnership will feature a dedicated Mauritian Pavilion showcasing the country’s unique blend of Indian and African heritage.

  • Expanding Global Reach: Officials noted that while the 2024 event (scheduled for Nov-Dec) features Tanzania as the partner, planning for 2025 has begun early to ensure seamless international participation. The goal is to involve the Ministry of External Affairs to host delegates from over 25 countries.

  • Key Preparations Discussed:

    • Infrastructure: Upgradation of pathways around the 48-Kos Kurukshetra pilgrimage sites.

    • Digital Integration: Expanding the “Virtual Gita Path” to allow devotees from Mauritius and the UK to participate in real-time shloka recitations.

    • Cultural Confluence: Plans for a “Mauritius-Haryana” joint cultural evening to celebrate the shared legacy of folk music and traditional arts.

  • International Footprint: The meeting also touched upon the success of Geeta Mahotsav events held previously in London, Canada, and Australia, stressing that the Kurukshetra event serves as the global anchor for these celebrations.
