The auspicious occasion of Karwa Chauth, a festival dedicated to the longevity of husbands, began with a heart-wrenching tragedy in Rewari today. A young woman’s vow to fast for her husband’s life ended prematurely in a pile of mangled metal and broken dreams.

  • The Incident: The accident took place around 6:30 AM near the Mundi village cut on the Rewari-Mahendragarh road. The couple was traveling from the woman’s maternal home (Peehar) toward their residence. According to witnesses, a speeding car/truck (suspected) brushed past the motorcycle, causing the husband to lose control.

  • The Fatal Blow: The woman, riding pillion, was thrown several feet onto the hard asphalt. Despite wearing a helmet (as per preliminary reports), the impact was so severe that she succumbed to internal head injuries before medical help could arrive.

  • Husband’s Condition: The husband was found unconscious with multiple fractures and a severe chest injury. He was rushed to the Rewari Trauma Center, from where he was referred to PGIMS Rohtak due to his deteriorating condition.

  • A Community in Mourning: The news of the death on such a significant festival has cast a shadow over their local village. Relatives who were waiting for the couple to arrive for the morning Sargi ritual instead had to rush to the mortuary. “She was so excited for her first/second Karwa Chauth. We were all preparing to see her in her bridal finery today,” sobbed a family member.

  • Police Investigation: The police have recovered a few broken pieces of the offending vehicle’s bumper from the site. They are currently scanning CCTV footage from a nearby petrol pump and toll plaza to identify the vehicle. An FIR under sections of causing death by negligence (BNS) has been lodged.

Safety Concern: Locals highlighted that the Rewari-Mahendragarh stretch has become a “death trap” due to the lack of dividers and high-speed commercial traffic. This incident has reignited demands for stricter highway patrolling, especially during festive seasons when travel increases significantly.
