The bottleneck between Old and New Gurugram is set to disappear as the Central Cabinet has provided the final nod for the expansion of the Gurugram Metro Rail.
-
Project Scope: The approved extension will span approximately 28.5 kilometers and include 27 elevated stations. The route will connect Millennium City Centre to Cyber City, passing through key areas like Subhash Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Sector 10, and Palam Vihar. It also includes a spur line to the Dwarka Expressway.
-
Economic Impact: CM Nayab Saini stated that this project would create thousands of jobs during the construction phase and unlock massive economic potential for residents of Old Gurugram. “This metro line will be the lifeline for over 2.5 million residents, offering them a sustainable and world-class commuting experience,” he added.
-
Double Engine Benefit: The CM highlighted that the synergy between the state and central governments allowed for the rapid clearance of environmental and financial hurdles. The project will be implemented by the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) as a 50:50 joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Haryana.
-
Modern Integration: The new line is designed for seamless integration with the Rapid Metro Gurugram and the upcoming RRTS (Regional Rapid Transit System), making Gurugram one of the best-connected cities in the NCR.
Community Sentiment
“We have been hearing about this extension for years, but the Cabinet’s official approval makes it feel real. Living in Sector 10 and working in Cyber City is currently a nightmare in traffic. Once this is built, our daily commute will drop from 60 minutes to 20 minutes. It’s the best news Gurugram has received this year,” said a local resident and IT professional.
