In a move to incentivize tax compliance and provide relief to urban residents, the Haryana government has launched a massive property tax interest subvention scheme.
-
Full Waiver Details: The ULB Minister stated that many taxpayers had accumulated high interest on their principal tax amounts over the years. “We are waiving off 100% of the interest and penalties. If a resident pays their base property tax before the year ends, they won’t have to pay a single rupee in interest,” the Minister explained.
-
Who Can Benefit? The scheme applies to all categories of properties—residential, commercial, and industrial—within the limits of all Municipal Corporations (including Gurugram and Faridabad), Municipal Councils, and Municipal Committees.
-
How to Pay: To avoid long queues at municipal offices, the department has upgraded the Property Tax Management System. Citizens can log in with their Property ID on the official portal, verify their dues, and make the payment via UPI, net banking, or credit/debit cards. The interest waiver will be automatically calculated at the checkout.
-
Correcting Records: The Minister also noted that this period serves as an opportunity for residents to correct any discrepancies in their property data. “If there is an error in your property category or area, visit your local MC office or use the online ‘Objection’ tool now so you can pay the correct tax and avail the waiver,” he added.
Community Sentiment
“This is exactly what we were waiting for. My property tax interest had almost become equal to the principal amount due to a long-standing dispute. Now that the government has waived the interest, I am happy to pay the principal. It’s a win-win for both the government and the middle-class homeowner,” said a resident of Rohtak.
