In a meticulously planned robbery reminiscent of a movie script, thieves decamped with Rs 28 lakh from a bank in Hisar after breaching a concrete wall and cutting through the strongroom safe. The heist, which took place over the weekend and was discovered early this morning, has sent shockwaves through the local business community and exposed significant security lapses.
The Modus Operandi The criminals displayed a high degree of technical expertise and familiarity with the bank’s layout.
-
The Entry: The thieves entered an adjacent vacant building or plot and used heavy-duty drilling equipment to create a large hole in the common wall shared with the bank.
-
Breaching the Safe: Once inside, they bypassed the alarm sensors (allegedly by cutting the wires) and reached the strongroom. Using gas cutters, they successfully breached the heavy steel safe to access the cash.
-
The Discovery: The robbery came to light when bank employees arrived to open the branch this morning. They found the premises ransacked, the wall breached, and the safe lying open.
Investigation and Clues The Hisar Police, along with forensic experts and a dog squad, arrived at the scene shortly after the alert.
-
Security Lapse: Preliminary reports suggest that the bank’s CCTV DVR (Digital Video Recorder) was either stolen or damaged by the thieves to erase any visual evidence. However, police are scanning footage from cameras installed at nearby shops and intersections.
-
Insider Suspicions: Given the precision of the wall breach—directly hitting the spot near the safe—the police are not ruling out the involvement of an insider or someone with intimate knowledge of the bank’s structural plan.
-
Special Teams: The Superintendent of Police, Hisar, has formed four special teams to track the culprits. Several suspects, including laborers who recently worked in the vicinity, are being rounded up for questioning.
Impact Bank operations remained suspended today as the forensic team collected fingerprints and other biological evidence from the site. The bank management has assured customers that their lockers are safe, as the thieves primarily targeted the main cash chest.
