The Gurugram Police have arrested a man for allegedly concealing his religious identity to marry a Hindu woman and later pressuring her to convert to Islam. The accused, identified as Arif Khan, had reportedly introduced himself as “Aarav” to the victim. Investigations revealed that Khan was already married and a father of three children.
The incident came to light after the victim filed a complaint alleging that she was deceived into marriage by the accused, who posed as a Hindu. According to police officials, the woman stated that she met “Aarav” some time ago, and he gained her trust by hiding his true religion. After their marriage, the victim discovered his real identity as Arif Khan. When she confronted him, Khan and his family members allegedly began harassing her and pressuring her to convert to Islam.
The complainant further alleged that the accused threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the truth or refused the conversion. Following the complaint, the police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Haryana Prevention of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act. Acting swiftly, a police team raided the accused’s location and took him into custody. Authorities have also arrested a second individual, believed to be an accomplice or family member, for aiding in the crime.
Police are currently interrogating the accused to ascertain if other individuals were involved in the conspiracy. “We have arrested two men in connection with the case. The primary accused misled the victim about his identity and marital status. Further probe is underway,” a senior police officer confirmed. The victim has been provided with security and counseling support.
