Lt Gen Katiyar Inaugurates 80-Bedded Girls’ Hostel at Sainik School

In a significant boost to infrastructure aimed at empowering female cadets, Lt Gen Manoj Kumar Katiyar, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Western Command, inaugurated a newly constructed girls’ hostel at Sainik School, Kunjpura, on Thursday. The new facility, designed to accommodate 80 cadets, marks a pivotal step in the institution’s ongoing efforts to provide top-tier residential amenities to its growing contingent of female students.

The General Officer was received at the campus by Maj Gen Prince Duggal, GOC, PH & HP (I) Sub Area, alongside the school Principal, Captain (IN) Gurbir Singh, and Administrative Officer Wing Commander Soniya Sharma. During the inauguration, Lt Gen Katiyar inspected the premises, noting that the state-of-the-art hostel is equipped with modern amenities intended to create a safe, comfortable, and conducive environment for the academic and personal growth of the girl cadets. The facility aligns with the broader national objective of integrating more women into the armed forces through early grooming at Sainik Schools.

Following the inauguration, Principal Captain Gurbir Singh briefed the Army Commander on the school’s recent academic achievements, infrastructure developments, and holistic training initiatives. Lt Gen Katiyar also took time to visit the cadets’ mess and other existing hostel facilities to assess the quality of life provided to the students.

In his address to the students and staff, Lt Gen Katiyar lauded the school’s historic role in shaping disciplined and capable young leaders. He encouraged the cadets to strive for excellence in all spheres—academics, sports, and co-curricular activities. Emphasizing the values of hard work and integrity, he motivated the staff to continue their dedicated efforts in molding the future defenders of the nation.
