Haryana Transport Upgrade: 400 Electric Buses to Join Fleet

In a major push towards modernizing the state’s public transport network and reducing its carbon footprint, Haryana’s Energy, Transport, and Labour Minister Anil Vij has announced the induction of over 400 electric buses into the Haryana Roadways fleet. Speaking to the media after presiding over a meeting of the District Public Relations and Grievance Redressal Committee in Sirsa on Friday, Vij outlined a comprehensive roadmap for a safer and tech-enabled transport system.

The Minister emphasized that the shift to electric mobility is critical to curbing pollution and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. Alongside the fleet expansion, Vij issued a strict directive regarding passenger safety: all drivers of private buses operating under state schemes must now pass a mandatory driving test. This move aims to standardise safety protocols across both government and private operators working within the state’s transport network.

Vij also detailed upcoming technological upgrades designed to enhance the commuter experience. “We are digitizing the entire bus system, including movement tracking and entry-exit logs at bus stands. Advanced real-time tracking systems will be installed, allowing passengers to view bus locations and schedules via a new mobile app,” he stated. Furthermore, bus stands across the state will soon feature digital display screens—similar to flight information boards at airports—to provide accurate arrival and departure times.

The Minister warned that he would personally monitor the digital dashboard to ensure transparency. Any deviation from designated routes or unexplained delays will be updated online, ensuring accountability. During the grievance meeting, Vij also ordered the suspension of two officials in connection with the illegal cutting of trees in Kaluana village, reinforcing the administration’s zero-tolerance policy towards negligence.
