In a significant announcement for regional connectivity, senior Haryana leader Anil Vij today confirmed that the ambitious Ambala-Shamli Expressway is on track for completion by the end of this year. The greenfield project is expected to revolutionize travel between Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh.
-
The Progress Report: During a review of the construction work in the Ambala section, Vij stated that over 80% of the earthwork and major bridges are already complete. “The Ambala-Shamli Expressway is a lifeline for the region. We are working at an accelerated pace to ensure the final layer of bitumen is laid before December 2026,” he noted.
-
Key Features of the Expressway:
-
Length & Route: The six-lane greenfield expressway covers a stretch of approximately 120 km, passing through Ambala, Kurukshetra, and Karnal before entering Shamli in Uttar Pradesh.
-
Time-Saving: Once operational, the travel time between Ambala and Shamli will be reduced from the current 3-4 hours to just under 90 minutes.
-
Economic Corridor: The expressway will act as a major trade corridor, facilitating the faster movement of agricultural produce and industrial goods from Haryana to the ports of Gujarat and Maharashtra via the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway link.
-
-
Overcoming Hurdles: Vij highlighted that issues regarding land compensation and forest clearances have been largely resolved. He instructed the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials to ensure that local drainage systems are not disrupted during the final phase of construction.
-
Safety & Modernization: The expressway will feature advanced Traffic Management Systems (TMS), including automated speed cameras, emergency SOS call boxes, and dedicated rest areas for long-haul commuters.
-
Impact on Ambala: “For the people of Ambala, this project means less congestion on local highways and a direct link to the growing industrial hubs in UP,” Vij added.
