In a chilling escalation of gang rivalry, a 24-year-old youth was gunned down in broad daylight on Monday evening near the Inspector General of Police (IGP) office on the busy Delhi Bypass in Rohtak. The victim, identified as Dinesh alias Goga, a resident of Nizampur village in Sonipat, was reportedly riddled with approximately 30 bullets in a targeted execution that lasted less than a minute.
The Incident The attack occurred around 6:30 PM while Dinesh was standing near a private hospital (Noble Heart Hospital) on the Delhi Bypass, reportedly drinking a cold drink with a companion. According to eyewitnesses and CCTV footage, three assailants arrived on a motorcycle. Two shooters got off and opened indiscriminate fire at point-blank range, while the third kept the engine running. The attackers fired an estimated 35 to 40 rounds in just 45 seconds before fleeing toward the bypass.
Post-Mortem Findings Medical examiners at PGIMS Rohtak confirmed the brutality of the assault, finding 30 to 35 bullet entry and exit wounds on the victim’s body. Forensic teams recovered nearly 30 empty shell casings from the crime scene.
Gang War Suspected Rohtak Superintendent of Police (SP) Surendra Singh Bohria confirmed that the murder appears to be the latest chapter in a violent turf war between the Himanshu Bhau gang and the Sunny Ritoli/Baba gang.
-
The Feud: This rivalry, centered around Ritoli village, has reportedly claimed six lives since 2020.
-
Responsibility: Shortly after the murder, a social media post attributed to the Himanshu Bhau gang (allegedly operated from abroad) and Neeraj Faridpuria claimed responsibility for the killing, terming the victim a “rival” and threatening further attacks on remaining associates.
-
Motive: Investigations suggest Dinesh was targeted due to his close association with Sunny Ritoli, whose brother Ankit alias Baba leads the rival faction and is currently in jail.
Police Action The Rohtak police have formed multiple specialized units, including CIA-1, CIA-2, and the Special Task Force (STF), to nab the shooters. While the assailants were captured on CCTV wearing hoodies, they remain at large. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act based on a complaint filed by the victim’s brother, Nitesh.
