The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a medical officer posted at the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) polyclinic in Sewah, Panipat, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹2.5 lakh. The accused was caught red-handed by the agency’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) wing during a trap laid at a dhaba in Murthal on Sunday.

The arrest followed a complaint filed by Squadron Leader (retd) Dr. Sudeep Sangwan, Director of Ayushmanbhava Hospital. The complainant alleged that the medical officer had been demanding a monthly bribe of ₹3.5 lakh in exchange for referring ECHS beneficiaries to his private hospital. Dr. Sangwan approached the CBI in Chandigarh, leading to the setup of the trap.

According to officials, the accused officer had called the hospital director to Murthal to collect the first installment of the bribe. As soon as the money changed hands, the CBI team moved in and apprehended the doctor with the marked currency.

The accused was produced before a special CBI court in Panchkula on Monday and has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody. The investigation is ongoing to determine if other officials or middlemen were involved in the referral racket.
