CM Saini Approved ₹3,000 Cr Munak-Manesar Water Project

In a move that has sent a wave of relief through the industrial community, the Haryana government has committed a multi-billion rupee investment to secure the future of the state’s primary manufacturing engine.

  • Addressing the Crisis: For years, the Manesar Industries Association (MIA) has highlighted that the lack of surface water was forcing units to rely on expensive and environmentally damaging tankers and illegal borewells. The Munak-Manesar link is expected to provide an additional 100+ MLD (Megalitres per Day) of raw water.

  • Technical Roadmap:

    • Parallel Line Channel (PLC): The project will feature a new lined channel to minimize seepage and evaporation losses.

    • Dedicated Pipeline: A high-capacity underground pipeline will be laid to transport water without theft or contamination risks.

    • Water Treatment Upgrade: Part of the budget is allocated for upgrading the existing Water Treatment Plants (WTP) in Manesar to handle the increased load.

  • Future-Proofing Manesar: During the announcement, the CM emphasized that this is not a temporary fix. “With the upcoming Global City and the expansion of the Maruti Suzuki plant in Kharkhoda/Manesar, the water demand is projected to triple by 2031. This ₹3,000 crore outlay ensures that industry will never have to stop for lack of water,” he said.

  • Coordination with GMDA: The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and HSIIDC will collaborate to execute the project. Officials have been directed to complete the tendering process within the next quarter to ensure work begins before the 2025 summer peak.

Economic Impact: Industrialists have welcomed the decision, noting that water reliability is a key factor for Japanese and European investors. The project is expected to significantly reduce the operational costs for thousands of MSMEs and large-scale manufacturing units, while also replenishing the local water table by reducing the need for extraction.
