In a significant push for agricultural reform and farmer security, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on August 10 pledged to transform the state’s grain markets (Mandis) into “models of excellence.” Addressing a public gathering, the CM emphasized that the safety of both the produce and the producers is a top priority for his administration.

🏗️ The Vision: Modern & Secure Infrastructure The CM announced a comprehensive upgrade plan for Mandis across Haryana to ensure they meet global standards of transparency and efficiency.

  • CCTV Surveillance: To prevent theft and ensure fair dealings, all major Mandis will be equipped with high-definition CCTV cameras. This move is aimed at building trust among farmers regarding the safety of their stock.

  • Weather-Proof Sheds: Acknowledging the recurring issue of crop damage due to sudden rains, the CM promised the construction of larger, better-designed sheds to protect the harvested produce.

  • Digital Transparency: Every process, from gate pass issuance to final payment, is slated for full digitization to eliminate middlemen and corruption.

🌾 “Harit Mandi, Khushaal Farmer” The CM introduced the concept of “Harit Mandis” (Green Markets), which will prioritize:

  • Solar Energy: Mandis will transition to solar power to meet their electricity needs.

  • Farmer Assistance Centers: Dedicated hubs will be established in every market to resolve grievances on the spot, sparing farmers from multiple visits to government offices.

  • Women’s Spaces: The plan includes dedicated spaces and facilities for women farmers and traders to encourage their participation in the rural economy.

🗣️ CM’s Quote “Our Mandis are not just government offices; they are the power centers of our rural economy. We are committed to ensuring that when a farmer brings his hard-earned produce to the Mandi, he feels safe, respected, and receives his payment within 48 hours,” said CM Nayab Singh Saini.

The initiative is part of the state’s broader “Viksit Haryana” vision, aiming to empower the 12 lakh farmers currently integrated into the state’s procurement system.
