The “debt trap” has claimed two more lives in Haryana’s industrial hub, as a prominent local trader and his spouse took the extreme step after allegedly being pushed to the brink by a private financier.

  • The Incident: Neighbors alerted the police this morning after the couple failed to open their door and their phones went unanswered. Upon breaking in, police found the duo unresponsive. They were rushed to the Hisar Civil Hospital, where they were declared brought dead.

  • The Suicide Note: The police recovered a three-page note handwritten by the trader. In the note, he detailed:

    • Loan Details: He had borrowed a sum for business expansion three years ago but had already paid back nearly double the amount in interest.

    • Harassment: The note named a specific private financier who allegedly visited their home daily, using abusive language in front of their children and neighbors.

    • Blackmail: The financier was reportedly using signed blank cheques to threaten the family with legal cases and “social ruin.”

  • Family Condition: The couple is survived by two young children who were reportedly at a relative’s house when the tragedy occurred.

  • Police Action: * FIR Registered: Following a complaint by the trader’s brother, Hisar Police have registered an FIR against the named financier under Section 108 (Abetment of Suicide) and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

    • Search Operation: Raids are currently being conducted at the financier’s known hideouts, as he has reportedly gone missing since the news of the deaths broke.

  • Growing Concern: Local merchant associations in Hisar have expressed deep shock and have called for a “Siren Protest” tomorrow. “The nexus of illegal private moneylenders is strangling small businesses in the city. We demand a special task force to curb this ‘interest-mafia’,” said a spokesperson for the Hisar Vyapar Mandal.

Administrative Support: The District Magistrate has ordered a review of all registered and unregistered private lending licenses in the district. Authorities have urged residents facing similar harassment to report to the Anti-Extortion Cell or the police helpline, promising that their identities will be kept confidential.
