Factories in Faridabad and Manesar Halt Operations for Sacred Vishwakarma Day Rituals

Oct 22, 2025 | Haryana

The heavy machinery that drives Haryana’s economy stood still today as the workforce shifted its focus from production to prayer. The occasion, celebrated widely across the state’s industrial corridors, honors Lord Vishwakarma, the celestial architect and divine engineer.

  • Rituals on the Shop Floor: In the IMT Manesar and Faridabad Industrial Areas, workers gathered at dawn to perform Shastra Puja (worship of tools). Computers, assembly lines, and heavy-duty cranes were draped in festive cloth and offered sweets and fruits.

  • Symbolic Shutdown: Unlike standard holidays, this closure is voluntary and spiritual. Manufacturing giants and small-scale tool rooms alike suspended operations, reflecting a deep-seated belief that respecting one’s “tools of trade” ensures safety and efficiency.

  • Labor-Management Harmony: The day also served as a moment of bonding. In several Faridabad units, factory owners participated in the Havan alongside their staff, followed by community feasts (Bhandaras) organized within the factory premises.

  • Economic Pulse: While the one-day closure results in a temporary dip in production volume, industry leaders in Manesar noted that the ritual is vital for morale and “cleansing” the workspace after the high-pressure pre-Diwali production rush.

Community Sentiment

“We spend 364 days a year treating these machines as objects of labor. Today, we treat them as the source of our livelihood. When we put a tilak on a machine, we aren’t just worshipping metal; we are honoring the skill and the bread it provides,” said a senior technician at an auto-parts manufacturing unit in Manesar.
