Free Ride Chaos: CET Exam Rush Chokes Bhiwani & Haryana Roads

Jul 27, 2025 | Haryana

While the Haryana government’s decision to provide free travel for Common Eligibility Test (CET) candidates was meant to be a relief, it turned into a logistical nightmare on July 27. The well-intentioned initiative resulted in severe overcrowding at bus terminals and massive traffic jams, with the district of Bhiwani bearing the brunt of the chaos.

🚍 “Relief Turned Roadblock” The administration had announced free travel on Haryana Roadways buses for candidates appearing for the Group C Mains exams (July 26-27), along with one family member for female aspirants. While this move was applauded for saving candidates money, the infrastructure failed to cope with the sheer volume of over 13 lakh aspirants.

The Bhiwani Bottleneck: Reports from Bhiwani highlighted a critical situation where the bus stand and arterial roads were completely gridlocked. Overcrowding: Visuals from the ground showed candidates hanging off bus doors and sitting on rooftops, desperate to reach exam centers on time.

🚦 Traffic Snarls Halt City Life The influx of vehicles brought local traffic to a standstill in several districts. Commuters in Bhiwani faced hour-long delays as buses struggled to exit the depots due to the heavy rush. Police were deployed to manage the situation, but the volume of traffic far exceeded the road capacity.

🗣️ Mixed Reactions While the financial relief was significant for students coming from far-flung areas, the execution left many frustrated. “We saved on tickets, but the stress of getting stuck in a jam before an exam was overwhelming,” shared one aspirant. The government has assured better route management for future shifts.
