A 29-year-old married man from Bhavnagar, Gujarat, has been arrested following a formal complaint by his sister, who accused him of blackmail and violent assaults, including rape. The disturbing case came to light after the victim, unable to bear the abuse any longer, sought help from authorities.
According to the police, the accused, a resident of Bhavnagar, allegedly exploited his sister’s consensual relationship to gain leverage and control over her. The intimidation and threats escalated into physical violence on two separate occasions. The first assault occurred on July 13, when the accused reportedly threatened the victim with a knife before raping her while she was alone at home. The abuse continued, with a second violent incident taking place on August 22. During this assault, the accused allegedly stubbed a lit cigarette onto her thigh, leaving visible burn marks.
Following the second brutal attack, the victim decided to take a brave step and reached out to the state’s women’s helpline. The helpline’s immediate intervention led to the registration of a formal complaint with the Bhavnagar police, who acted swiftly to arrest the accused. The police have also recovered the knife used in the assaults and the accused’s clothes as part of their ongoing investigation. Medical examinations of both the victim and the accused have been conducted to gather evidence.
