Hapur Man Arrested for ₹1.5 Crore Theft from Religious Event at Delhi’s Red Fort

NEW DELHI – A man from Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested for allegedly stealing valuable items worth approximately ₹1.5 crore from a Jain religious event held within the premises of the Red Fort. The accused, identified as Bhushan Verma (21), was apprehended following a joint operation by Delhi and Hapur police.

The theft occurred during the ‘Daslakshan Mahaparv’ on September 3. The stolen items, which belonged to a businessman, included two golden urns, a golden coconut, and a gold urn studded with precious stones. The businessman had brought these items to the event for daily rituals.

According to police, Verma, who is not a member of the Jain community, managed to blend in with the devotees by wearing traditional clothing. He was able to carry out the theft without being noticed by the attendees.

A senior police official confirmed that the investigation led them to Hapur, where the accused was subsequently arrested. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and police are now working to recover the stolen valuables.
