Haryana: 108 New Officers to Take Charge Amid 15 Lakh Pending Cases

Feb 5, 2026 | Haryana

In a significant move to strengthen the state’s judicial infrastructure, 108 newly inducted judicial officers are set to formally take charge of courts across Haryana after completing their one-year induction training. The officers will transition from the Chandigarh Judicial Academy’s study benches to judicial benches at a valedictory function scheduled for February 7.

The induction comes at a critical time when Haryana is grappling with a staggering backlog of 15.26 lakh pending cases, with criminal matters accounting for nearly three-fourths of the total pendency. Data from the National Judicial Data Grid reveals that over 11 lakh criminal cases involving life and liberty are currently awaiting resolution, underscoring the urgent need for additional judicial manpower.

The valedictory function will be held at the Judicial Academy auditorium and will be attended by Supreme Court Judges Justice Rajesh Bindal and Justice Augustine George Masih. The event will be presided over by Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, in the presence of Justice Harsimran Singh Sethi, the President of the Academy’s Board of Governors. The academy functions under the patronage of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu.

Legal experts hope that the deployment of these 108 officers will help alleviate the burden on the state’s 21 sessions divisions, where the shortage of judges has often led to long adjournments and delayed justice for litigants.
