Haryana Assembly Goes Paperless, High-Tech Tablets Installed for All MLAs

The Haryana Vidhan Sabha is all set to embark on a more digitized and eco-friendly path as final preparations for the upcoming Winter Session were reviewed today.

  • The Inspection: The Speaker of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha conducted an extensive floor-to-ceiling inspection of the assembly hall, press galleries, and visitor lounges. The focus was on ensuring a seamless experience for the legislators and maintaining strict security protocols.

  • The Digital Leap: The highlight of the new arrangements is the installation of individual digital tablets at the desk of every Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). These high-end devices are part of the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA) project, aimed at making the assembly completely paperless.

  • Functionalities of the Tablets:

    • Real-time Access: MLAs will now be able to access the list of business, starred questions, and copies of bills directly on their screens.

    • Voting & Attendance: The tablets are integrated with the assembly’s internal network for secure digital attendance and electronic voting.

    • Research Support: Members can pull up archived data, past speeches, and budget documents instantly during debates.

  • Training for MLAs: To ensure that all members—regardless of their tech-savviness—can use the devices effectively, the Speaker has arranged for a dedicated technical helpdesk and a short orientation session before the house convenes.

  • Speaker’s Vision: “We are moving toward a ‘Green Assembly.’ This digital transition will not only save thousands of pages of paper every session but will also increase the efficiency of the legislative process,” the Speaker told reporters during the inspection.

  • Logistics & Security: Aside from the tech upgrades, the Speaker reviewed the seating arrangements to accommodate the recent shifts in the treasury and opposition benches. Security measures within the Capitol Complex have also been heightened, with new biometric entry points for staff.
