In a major relief for electricity consumers, the Haryana government notified a new rule on July 14, 2025, drastically reducing the timeline for obtaining new power connections. Under the Haryana Right to Service Act, 2014, the Electricity Department has promised to release new connections in metropolitan areas within just 3 days.
⏱️ New Timelines for Connections
According to the notification issued by Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, the government has fixed strict deadlines for the release of new or temporary electricity connections (Low Tension supply) and load extensions. The new service guarantee timelines are as follows:
-
Metropolitan Areas: 3 Days (reduced from 7 days).
-
Other Municipal Areas: 7 Days (reduced from 15 days).
-
Rural Areas: 15 Days (reduced from 30 days).
For cases requiring system expansion or enhancement of the distribution network, a fixed timeline of 34 days has been set.
📜 Accountability and Officers Designated
To ensure strict compliance, the notification clearly designates the officers responsible for service delivery:
-
Designated Officer (DO): Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) – Operations.
-
First Grievance Redressal Authority: Executive Engineer (XEN) – Operations.
-
Second Grievance Redressal Authority: Superintending Engineer (SE) – Operations.
This move aims to eliminate unnecessary bureaucratic delays, ensuring that citizens in rapidly growing urban hubs like Gurugram and Faridabad can access essential power infrastructure without hassle. The inclusion of these services under the Right to Service Act means officers can face penalties for failing to meet the deadlines without a valid reason.
