Haryana Emerges as India’s Leader in Freezing Cyber Fraud Funds

Jan 6, 2026 | Haryana

In a major victory for digital security and public welfare, Haryana has been ranked number one in the country for its efficiency in freezing and securing money stolen through cyber frauds. By leveraging advanced technology and a highly responsive “Golden Hour” protocol, the Haryana Police successfully prevented hundreds of crores from reaching the accounts of cybercriminals in 2025.

The Winning Strategy: The 1930 Helpline The primary catalyst for this success has been the proactive management of the National Cyber Crime Helpline (1930). Haryana’s State Cyber Cell has integrated this helpline with a dedicated command center that works in real-time with banks and financial intermediaries.

  • The “Golden Hour” Focus: Statistics show that Haryana has the fastest response rate in India for the first two hours after a fraud is reported—often referred to as the “Golden Hour.” During this period, the police have a high success rate in blocking the money before it is withdrawn from ATMs or converted into cryptocurrency.

  • Seamless Bank Coordination: The Haryana Police have established direct communication nodes with over 150 banks and digital wallets, allowing for the instantaneous freezing of suspicious transactions.

Key Achievements in 2025

  • Record Amount Frozen: According to the latest data, Haryana Police froze over ₹200 crore (estimated) in stolen funds during the previous year alone, outperforming larger states like Maharashtra and Telangana.

  • Account Blocking: More than 50,000 mobile numbers and thousands of bank accounts linked to cyber-scammers were blocked within the state’s jurisdiction.

  • Cyber Lab Upgrades: The state government’s investment in high-end forensic tools at its regional cyber labs (Gurugram, Panchkula, and Rohtak) has allowed investigators to track complex “mule account” chains with higher precision.

Official Commendation The Director General of Police (DGP) Haryana lauded the cyber teams, stating, “Our mission is to make the digital space safe for every citizen. Being ranked first in the nation for money recovery is a testament to our technical capability and the tireless work of our cyber warriors.”

Public Awareness Push Despite the success, officials emphasize that “Prevention is better than recovery.” The Haryana Police continue to urge citizens to:

  1. Report Immediately: Call 1930 within minutes of realizing a fraud.

  2. Avoid Suspicious Links: Never click on unknown links sent via SMS or WhatsApp promising electricity bill updates or prize money.

  3. Use Official Portals: Only use the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) for filing formal complaints.
