Haryana Health Infra Boost: 5 New Cath Labs Proposed

The Haryana government is set to further strengthen its critical healthcare infrastructure with a proposal to establish five new Cath Labs (Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories) in government medical colleges and district hospitals across the state. The announcement was made by Dr. Sumita Misra, Additional Chief Secretary (Health), during a review meeting of the Health and Medical Education Department on Thursday.

Highlighting the rapid expansion of medical facilities, Dr. Misra noted that the department has achieved a remarkable 91% utilization of its capital expenditure budget for the current fiscal year. Out of an allocation of ₹951.51 crore, the department has already utilized ₹866.96 crore, reflecting efficient project execution. In addition to the new Cath Labs, the state is aggressively scaling up diagnostic capacities. The tendering process for 10 additional MRI units has been completed, paving the way for MRI services to be available in all 23 district hospitals soon. Furthermore, tenders have been finalized for four more CT scanners, adding to the 17 facilities currently functional.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of major ongoing projects, including the University of Health Sciences at Kutail (Karnal) and six upcoming government medical colleges in Jind, Kaithal, Yamunanagar, Sirsa, Sonipat (Khanpur Kalan), and Karnal. Officers have been directed to accelerate construction timelines to ensuring early operationalization. On the tertiary care front, the Atal Cancer Care Centre at Ambala Cantt has been made operational, and tenders for advanced PET Scan and SPECT facilities have been floated to enhance cancer treatment capabilities in the state.
