In a first-of-its-kind initiative aimed at securing the future of those who lost their parents in the line of duty, the Haryana government has rolled out a comprehensive scholarship scheme for the children of martyrs and battle casualties. The Nayab Singh Saini-led government has announced monthly financial assistance ranging from ₹5,000 to ₹8,000 for the wards of personnel from the Armed Forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs).

According to the notification issued by Vijayendra Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of the Sainik and Ardh Sainik Welfare Department, the “Haryana Scholarship for Children of Battle/Operational Casualty Policy, 2025” is designed to support education from Class VI up to the post-graduation level. Under the new structure, students in Classes VI to XII will receive ₹60,000 per year (₹5,000 monthly). For those pursuing graduation, the amount increases to ₹72,000 annually (₹6,000 monthly), while post-graduate students are entitled to ₹96,000 per year (₹8,000 monthly).

The policy mandates that the deceased personnel must have been a domicile of Haryana at the time of entry into service. It covers deaths occurring in operational areas, including wars, IED blasts, border skirmishes, UN Peacekeeping missions, and rescue operations during natural calamities. Crucially, the government has clarified that this scholarship is admissible even if other members of the martyr’s family are currently in service, ensuring that the aid reaches the children regardless of the family’s employment status.

The scheme covers a wide ambit of forces under the Ministry of Defence (Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard) and the Ministry of Home Affairs (BSF, CRPF, CISF, ITBP, NSG, and SSB). Officials emphasized that the primary objective is to ensure that the education of these children is not hindered by financial constraints following the supreme sacrifice of their parents.
