In a visionary move to transition governance from “reactive” to “proactive,” Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini officially launched the ‘Department of Future’ on July 18, 2025. This first-of-its-kind department is dedicated to integrating cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) into state policy and preparing the youth for the job market of tomorrow.
๐ฎ A Budget Promise Fulfilled
The establishment of this department fulfills a key promise made by CM Saini (who also holds the Finance portfolio) in his 2025-26 Budget speech. Following the Governor’s assent, the official notification was issued on Friday, formalizing the department’s role as the state’s strategic think-tank.
CM Saini emphasized that 21st-century governance cannot rely solely on solving today’s problems but must anticipate the challenges of the next decade. “The Department of Future will be the seed of future preparedness that will grow into a banyan tree of prosperity,” the Chief Minister stated.
๐ค Key Objectives: AI, Climate & Skills
The Department of Future has a broad and ambitious mandate designed to align Haryana with the national goal of Viksit Bharat @2047:
-
Horizon Scanning: It will actively monitor global trends in AI, Machine Learning, Quantum Computing, and Robotics to understand their impact on jobs and industries.
-
Youth Empowerment: A core focus is to identify “future-ready skills” and update educational curriculums accordingly, ensuring Haryana’s youth are employable in a rapidly automating world.
-
Sustainable Planning: The department will forecast challenges in critical sectors like climate change, water security, and energy, allowing the government to create data-driven, long-term mitigation strategies rather than temporary fixes.
By institutionalizing “future thinking,” Haryana aims to become a pioneer in innovation-driven governance, attracting high-tech investments and securing the economic future of its next generation.
