Haryana Meets 2025 Solar Power Generation Target

Dec 7, 2025 | Haryana

Haryana has solidified its position on India’s renewable energy map by meeting its 2025 solar generation goals weeks before the end of the year. The announcement was made by the State Power Minister during a high-level review meeting of the power utilities.

  • Target Accomplishment: The state had set an ambitious cumulative target for solar power capacity to be operational by December 2025. While the exact figure was part of the state’s long-term Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO), the Minister confirmed that the current installed and synchronized capacity has now crossed that threshold.

  • Key Drivers of Success:

    • PM-KUSUM Success: Haryana leads the country in the installation of solar pumps for farmers, allowing thousands of hectares to be irrigated using solar energy.

    • Rooftop Solar Revolution: Strong subsidies and simplified net-metering policies in cities like Gurugram, Faridabad, and Panchkula have significantly contributed to the total capacity.

    • Large-Scale Parks: The recent commissioning of solar plants on canal tops and barren lands in districts like Mahendragarh and Bhiwani provided the final push needed to hit the target.

  • Reducing Thermal Dependency: The Minister highlighted that the increase in solar capacity is already helping the state manage peak daytime demand during the summer months, reducing the reliance on expensive short-term power purchases from thermal plants.

  • Future Vision – 2030: Following this success, the Power Department is now drafting a revised “Solar Policy 2.0” with more aggressive targets for 2030, aiming to make Haryana a net-zero state in terms of departmental electricity consumption.

  • Grid Stability: To support this increase in variable renewable energy, the Minister also announced plans for the installation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at key substations to ensure grid stability during non-sunny hours.
