Haryana Police Launch Massive Anti-Drunk Driving Drive

Dec 29, 2025 | Haryana

With the countdown to 2026 beginning, the Haryana Police today launched a high-intensity statewide campaign against drunk driving. Special checkpoints, commonly known as nakas, have been established at strategic locations across all major cities to ensure public safety during the festive week.

  • “Don’t Drink and Drive” Campaign: The drive, which started this evening, aims to prevent road accidents and maintain law and order as people head out for pre-New Year celebrations. “Our goal is not to stop the celebrations, but to ensure that everyone reaches home safely. We have a zero-tolerance policy toward those who jeopardize their lives and the lives of others by driving under the influence,” stated a senior police official.

  • The Operation: * Strategic Locations: Checkpoints have been set up near popular malls, pub clusters (like Cyber Hub and Sector 29 in Gurugram), and exit points of major highways.

    • Alco-meter Testing: Police teams equipped with digital breathalyzers are conducting random checks. In Gurugram alone, over 50 such specialized teams have been deployed.

    • Body-worn Cameras: To ensure transparency and avoid disputes with citizens, officers at these nakas are wearing body cameras to record the interactions and the testing process.

  • Strict Penalties:

    • Hefty Fines: Violators are being slapped with fines as per the latest Motor Vehicles Act provisions.

    • License Suspension: Police have clarified that they will recommend the immediate suspension of driving licenses for repeat offenders or those involved in reckless driving while intoxicated.

    • Vehicle Impounding: In several cases tonight, vehicles were impounded where a sober alternate driver was not available.

  • Women’s Safety: Female police officers are part of the teams at checkpoints near nightlife zones to assist female commuters and ensure a safe environment for everyone.

  • Public Advisory: The police have issued a strong advisory encouraging the use of cabs, designated drivers, or carpooling services. They have also requested bar and restaurant owners to assist in arranging transport for patrons who are unfit to drive.

  • Impact: On the first night of the intensified drive, dozens of challans were issued in Gurugram and Faridabad, serving as a stern warning for the upcoming New Year’s Eve.
