Haryana PWD Minister Allocates ₹500 Crore to Fix State Roads by Year-End

The Haryana government is launching a month-long sprint to fix the state’s crumbling road infrastructure before the onset of extreme winter fog.

  • Targeted Action: The ₹500 crore allocation is specifically for the “Special Repair” of PWD (B&R) roads that are currently outside their warranty/maintenance periods. Priority is being given to high-traffic corridors and link roads connecting grain markets (Mandis) to main highways.

  • Accountability Measures: Minister Ranbir Gangwa introduced a “Photographic Verification” mandate. Contractors must upload “Before and After” geotagged photos of every repaired pothole on the H-Roads portal. “We are not looking for cosmetic touch-ups; we need durable bituminous work that can withstand winter moisture,” the Minister stated.

  • Winter Readiness: The December 31 deadline is strategic. Dense fog typically arrives in January, and potholes are a leading cause of multi-vehicle pile-ups during low-visibility conditions. By leveling the roads now, the government aims to reduce highway accidents by an estimated 20%.

  • Citizen Feedback: A dedicated WhatsApp helpline has been activated for citizens to report potholes. Residents can send a photo and location, which the department claims will be addressed within 48 to 72 hours under the new “Pothole-Free Mission.”

Community Sentiment

“The condition of the internal roads has been terrible since the monsoon. While we have heard ‘pothole-free’ promises before, the ₹500 crore budget and the strict December deadline give us some hope. Our only concern is the quality—repairs shouldn’t wash away with the first winter rain,” said a resident from a residential sector in Hisar.
