In a significant relief for the millions who depend on the “Lath-Gaadh” (Sturdy) Haryana Roadways, the department’s digital transformation has finally passed its trial-by-fire.
-
Fixing the Glitches: Since its soft launch earlier this year, the app faced criticism for “ghost buses” (buses appearing on the map but not in reality) and frequent crashes. The IT team has now integrated High-Frequency GPS transponders across 4,000 buses, ensuring that the location data is refreshed every 30 seconds.
-
Key Features Now Active:
-
Live Tracking: See the exact moving position of the bus on a Google Maps interface.
-
ETA Alerts: Set notifications for when a bus is 10 minutes away from your selected stop.
-
Route Finder: Input your destination to see all available direct and connecting Roadways buses.
-
E-Ticketing: Book tickets for long-route buses directly via UPI or cards, skipping the ticket counter.
-
-
Impact on Safety: For women and students traveling late in the evening, the app provides a layer of security by allowing them to share their bus’s live location with family members.
-
Official Statement: “Our goal was to bring Haryana Roadways at par with private cab services in terms of predictability. With the app now stabilized, we are seeing a 20% increase in daily downloads,” said the Transport Commissioner.
Community Sentiment
“I used to spend 40 minutes at the Rohtak bus stand just guessing when the Delhi-bound bus would arrive. Today, I checked the app at home, saw the bus was near the bypass, and reached the stand just five minutes before it pulled in. This is the kind of technology we actually need in our daily lives,” said a regular commuter and college student.
