Haryana to Open 100 New Sports Nurseries in Rural Govt Schools

Dec 6, 2025 | Haryana

In a move aimed at maintaining Haryana’s status as India’s premier sporting hub, the State Sports Minister today unveiled a strategic expansion of the Sports Nursery scheme.

  • Grassroots Focus: The 100 new nurseries will be exclusively established in government schools located in rural blocks across all 22 districts. The focus will be on traditional and Olympic sports such as Wrestling, Boxing, Archery, Athletics, and Hockey.

  • Stipend and Support: To encourage participation and support nutrition, the government will provide a monthly stipend of ₹1,500 to ₹2,000 to each student enrolled in these nurseries, based on their attendance and performance.

  • Coaching and Infrastructure: Each nursery will be assigned a certified coach. The Sports Department will also provide a grant of up to ₹5 lakh per school for the procurement of sports gear, mats, and fitness equipment.

  • Selection Process: Talent scouting camps will be organized in January 2026 to select the first batch of students. “Our goal is to ensure that a child in a remote village has the same access to quality coaching as someone in a city,” the Minister stated.

  • Economic and Social Impact: Beyond medals, the Minister emphasized that these nurseries would help keep rural youth away from drug abuse and provide a structured path toward sports quotas in government jobs.
