Haryana’s First Climate Change Learning Lab Inaugurated in Panchkula

Marking a significant step towards environmental education, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has inaugurated Haryana’s first Climate Change Learning Lab (CCLL) at the Thapli Nature and Ecotourism Centre in the Morni Hills area of Panchkula. The facility, inaugurated earlier this week, is being hailed as a “unique knowledge hub” designed to simplify complex climate concepts for students and the general public.

🌍 A Classroom in Nature The lab, established with support from the German International Cooperation (GIZ) and the International Climate Initiative (IKI), is only the fourth of its kind in India.

  • Interactive Learning: Unlike traditional museums, the lab features interactive exhibits, games, and working models that explain the science behind global warming, greenhouse gases, and carbon footprints.

  • Target Audience: While open to all, the facility is specifically curated for school children, aiming to transform them into “Green Ambassadors” for the future.

🌱 Mission LiFE & Sustainability Speaking at the event, CM Saini emphasized that the lab aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), which promotes mindful consumption over wasteful living.

  • Key Modules: The lab covers critical topics such as sustainable living, waste management, and the impact of climate change on agriculture in Haryana.

  • Eco-Tourism Boost: Located in the scenic Morni Hills, the lab also serves as an eco-tourism attraction, encouraging visitors to connect with nature while learning about its preservation.

🔍 “Science Beyond Labs” The project aims to take scientific discussions out of closed conference rooms and into the public domain. By using digital tools and hands-on activities, the administration hopes to foster a culture of scientific temper and environmental responsibility among the youth of Haryana.
