The “Land of Champions” has added another gold to its tally as Samrat Rana became only the third Indian ever to win a World Championship gold in the 10m Air Pistol category.

  • The Golden Performance: Competing in his maiden senior World Championship, Samrat displayed nerves of steel. In a neck-and-neck final against China’s Hu Kai, Samrat fired a near-perfect 10.6 on his final shot to finish with a total of 243.7, edging past his rival by a mere 0.4 points.

  • Immediate State Recognition: Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini took to social media to congratulate the young marksman. “Samrat’s victory has brought glory not just to Haryana but to the entire nation. In line with our state’s sports policy, he will be awarded ₹1.5 crore and provided with a high-ranking government position,” the CM stated.

  • Family Legacy: Samrat’s journey is a testament to grassroots dedication. His father, Ashok Kumar Rana, a resident of Karnal, had established a private shooting academy to train Samrat and his sisters, ensuring they had access to professional equipment despite living in a small-town setting.

  • Sports Policy Impact: Officials noted that Samrat is a product of the state’s intensive focus on shooting, which has seen the establishment of over 2,000 sports nurseries. His success follows the footsteps of fellow Haryanvi legends like Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh.
