Hisar: MC Cracks Down on Encroachments in Busy Rajguru Market

Jan 7, 2026 | Haryana

: To reclaim public spaces and ensure smooth pedestrian movement in one of the city’s busiest commercial hubs, the Hisar Municipal Corporation (MC) today launched a large-scale anti-encroachment drive at Rajguru Market. The operation, which began early in the morning, saw the removal of dozens of illegal extensions, temporary sheds, and unauthorized street vendors.

The Operation Details Accompanied by a heavy police contingent and JCB machines, the MC enforcement wing moved through the narrow lanes of Rajguru Market.

  • Removal of Obstructions: Shopkeepers who had extended their displays onto the footpaths were ordered to clear them immediately. The team dismantled several illegal signboards and temporary counters that had restricted the flow of shoppers.

  • Vendors Evicted: Unauthorized rehris (carts) and street stalls that were blocking the main entry points were seized and moved to the MC yard.

  • Seizure of Goods: A significant amount of merchandise that was kept on the public path was confiscated by the corporation teams.

Tense Standoff The drive was not without resistance. High drama was witnessed as a group of local shopkeepers and street vendors gathered to protest the “sudden” action.

  • Protesters’ Claim: Vendors argued that they had not been given enough time to move their goods and that the drive affected their livelihoods during the peak afternoon business hours.

  • MC’s Stance: Officials clarified that multiple public announcements and individual notices had been issued over the last week, which were largely ignored by the encroachers.

The Objective “Rajguru Market is the heart of Hisar’s retail trade, but it has become a nightmare for visitors due to illegal encroachments. Our goal is to ensure that fire tenders and ambulances can pass through in case of an emergency and that shoppers can walk safely,” a senior MC official stated at the site.

Future Course of Action The Hisar MC has warned that the drive will continue for the next few days in surrounding areas like Nagori Gate and Moti Bazaar. To prevent re-encroachment, the corporation plans to deploy dedicated “Enforcement Guards” who will patrol the market daily and fine repeat offenders.
