The high-profile espionage case involving YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra reached a critical legal juncture today. Following the submission of a massive 2,500-page charge sheet by the Haryana Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Saturday, the defense has formally petitioned the court for access to the complete investigation report to prepare for trial.
-
The Espionage Allegations: Jyoti Malhotra, known for her YouTube channel “Travel with Jo,” was arrested on May 16, 2025. Investigations allege she was “groomed” by Ehsan-ur-Rahim alias Danish, an official at the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi who was recently expelled from India.
-
Sensitive Information: The police claim Malhotra shared sensitive locations and digital data with Pakistani handlers via encrypted apps like WhatsApp and Snapchat. She reportedly saved handlers’ numbers under fake names like “Jatt Randhawa” to evade suspicion.
-
The “Bali” Connection: The charge sheet details an overseas trip to Bali, Indonesia, where Malhotra allegedly met with a Pakistani intelligence operative. Police have also scrutinized her multiple visits to Pakistan and a recent trip to Pahalgam, though direct links to specific terror attacks are still being analyzed.
-
Legal Stand: Defense lawyer Kumar Mukesh argued in court today that withholding the charge sheet violates the defendant’s rights. The court has scheduled the next hearing to decide on the distribution of the document, as the police have requested that certain “highly sensitive” portions remain confidential to protect national security.
Official Status: Malhotra remains in judicial custody. She has been booked under the Official Secrets Act and Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for acts endangering the sovereignty and integrity of India.
