International Gita Mahotsav 2025 Kicks Off with Vibrant “Saras Mela” in Kurukshetra

Nov 15, 2025 | Haryana

The chants of shlokas and the rhythmic sounds of folk instruments marked the beginning of the International Gita Mahotsav 2025 today. The “Saras Mela,” the festival’s commercial and cultural heart, was formally opened to the public in a ceremony draped in tradition.

  • Governor’s Tribute: Inaugurating the event, Governor Bandaru Dattatreya emphasized that the Gita’s message of “Karma” is more relevant today than ever. “By taking this Mahotsav to countries like Australia, Canada, and Mauritius, the Haryana government has made every Indian proud. This is not just a festival; it is a global bridge of wisdom,” the Governor stated.

  • Saras Mela Highlights: This year’s Saras Mela hosts over 400 stalls showcasing the “Mini India” spirit. From the terracotta of West Bengal to the silk of Kanchipuram and the special “Ujjain-themed” crafts from partner state Madhya Pradesh, the mela is a shopper’s paradise.

  • Cultural Tapestry: The opening day featured several folk dance troupes from Haryana and neighboring states. The department of North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC) has curated a schedule of daily evening performances that will run until the Mahotsav’s conclusion on December 15.

  • Economic Boost: Local officials estimate that the first day alone saw a footfall of over 50,000 visitors. The administration has ensured high-tech security, including drone surveillance and the 1,000 AI cameras recently integrated into the regional safety grid.

Community Sentiment

“Every year the Saras Mela gets bigger. I came all the way from Ambala just for the hand-crafted pottery and the traditional food stalls. The atmosphere at Brahma Sarovar today is electric; you can feel the spiritual energy mixed with the joy of a village fair. It’s wonderful to see our culture being celebrated so grandly,” said a visitor at the craft fair.
