The streets of Jhajjar echoed with slogans of “Jai Hind” and “Shaheed Amar Rahein” today as the city hosted a grand marathon dedicated to the war heroes of Haryana. Jhajjar, which has a storied history of sending its sons to the front lines, saw a record turnout of sports enthusiasts and students.

  • Honoring the Legacy: The marathon was held as a precursor to the state-level celebrations of Haryana Heroes’ Martyrdom Day. District officials noted that the event was designed to remind the younger generation of the supreme sacrifice made by Rao Tula Ram during the 1857 revolution and the thousands of soldiers from Haryana who have died in post-independence wars.

  • Large-Scale Participation: More than 5,000 participants, including school children, local athletes, and ex-servicemen, took part in the event. The run was flagged off from the local sports stadium and covered a 5-kilometer route through the main markets and memorials of the city.

  • A Message Against Drugs: Beyond patriotism, the marathon focused on the “Drug-Free Haryana” campaign. “A healthy youth is the backbone of a strong nation. By running today, these youngsters are pledging to stay away from intoxicants and dedicate their energy to the progress of India,” said a senior administrative official at the finish line.

  • Community Spirit: Local NGOs and social organizations set up water stations and refreshment stalls along the route. Several “Veer Naris” (war widows) and families of martyrs were special guests at the event, where they were honored with mementos for their resilience and sacrifice.
