In a major crackdown on organized theft, a team from the Crime Investigation Agency-3 (CIA-3) of the Karnal police has busted a notorious gang of cable thieves, arresting 14 individuals. The gang was allegedly involved in stealing aluminium cables from various locations, and their arrest has led to the resolution of nine theft cases in the district.
The operation was led by CIA-3 in-charge Ajay Kumar. According to police reports, the breakthrough came following a complaint lodged at the Taraori police station by a project manager, Pankaj Sharma. Sharma reported that unidentified persons had stolen aluminium wire from a new electricity board work site in the Nissing area. Acting swiftly on this lead, the police first arrested four suspects, whose interrogation subsequently exposed the wider network, leading to the apprehension of 10 more accomplices.
The accused have been identified as Vijay, Ravi, Ajay, Ravi Prakash, Praveen Kumar, Hemraj, Rakesh, Vikram, and Sonu—all residents of Bhukhapuri village—and Rahul from Haibatpur. During the investigation, the police recovered ₹2.40 lakh in cash and seized two pick-up vehicles used to transport the stolen goods. The gang’s modus operandi involved conducting a recce of targeted sites during the day and returning at night to cut the wires using heavy-duty cutters.
The accused confessed to committing multiple thefts across the areas of Sadar Karnal and Nissing. They were produced before a court on Sunday and have been sent to judicial custody.
