Jul 29, 2025 | Haryana

In a significant operation that has brought a sigh of relief to the city’s business community, the Karnal Police achieved a major breakthrough on July 29 by arresting a notorious gang of five robbers. The gang was allegedly involved in the sensational ₹80 lakh dacoity that had sent shockwaves through the district’s traders earlier this month.

🚓 The Operation: CIA-1 Success Acting on a tip-off regarding the movement of suspicious vehicles near the National Highway (NH-44), a team from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA-1) intercepted a white SUV.

  • The Arrest: Following a brief chase, the police apprehended five individuals.

  • Identities: Police officials have identified the ringleader as a history-sheeter from a neighboring district, while the other four are reportedly local accomplices who provided logistical support.

💰 “Terror of Traders” Ended The gang had become a primary source of fear for local rice millers and grain market (Anaj Mandi) traders after they looted ₹80 lakh from a prominent businessman at gunpoint in broad daylight.

  • Modus Operandi: The accused would conduct a “recce” of traders carrying cash from banks to their offices, strike at isolated spots, and flee within minutes.

  • Recovery: Preliminary reports suggest the police have successfully recovered a substantial portion of the looted cash (approx. ₹55 lakh) and three illegal country-made pistols used in the crime.

🗣️ Official Statement Confirming the development, the Superintendent of Police (SP) stated, “This gang was highly organized and had been on our radar for two weeks. Their arrest has not only solved the ₹80 lakh case but likely prevented future strikes they were planning in the Panipat and Kurukshetra region.”

⚖️ Legal Proceedings The five accused will be produced in the District Court tomorrow, where the police will seek their remand to recover the remaining amount and investigate their links to other unsolved robberies in the state.
