In a bid to position Kurukshetra as a premier global destination for spiritual and cultural tourism, the Kurukshetra Development Board (KDB) today announced a series of new initiatives and high-tech elements to be added to the iconic Brahma Sarovar in 2026.
-
Enhanced Light and Sound Show: A major highlight of the plan is the upgrade of the existing light and sound show. KDB officials revealed that new 3D projection mapping technology will be used to depict the stories of the Mahabharata and the Bhagavad Gita more vividly on the water and surrounding structures.
-
Musical Fountains: To enhance the evening experience for visitors, state-of-the-art musical fountains with synchronized LED lighting are being installed at specific points along the vast sarovar.
-
Digital Information Kiosks: To cater to international and young tourists, the board is setting up Interactive Digital Kiosks. These touch-screen points will provide multi-lingual information about the historical significance of Kurukshetra, map of the 48-kos parikrama, and real-time schedules for the Aarti.
-
Augmented Reality (AR) Zones: In a first for the region, KDB plans to introduce AR experiences where tourists can use their smartphones to see digital reconstructions of ancient temples and historical events as they walk through the parikrama.
-
Improved Amenities: * Eco-friendly Transport: Deployment of more electric carts to assist elderly and disabled pilgrims.
-
Beautification: A massive plantation drive of ornamental and sacred trees like Peepal and Banyan to create shaded green zones for meditation.
-
-
Strategic Goal: “Our aim is to move beyond just being a pilgrimage site. We want Brahma Sarovar to be a world-class tourism hub that blends ancient spirituality with modern technology,” said a senior official of the KDB. The board expects these additions to increase annual footfall by at least 25% in the coming year.
