CHANDIGARH/CANADA – The notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang has publicly claimed responsibility for two high-profile criminal incidents: the recent murder of Punjabi industrialist Darshan Singh Sahsi and the subsequent firing of gunshots at the residence of Punjabi singer Channi Nattan in Canada.
The claim was made via a Facebook post by Goldie Dhillon, a known member of the Bishnoi gang. Dhillon alleged that Sahsi was killed due to his involvement in drug trafficking and his refusal to pay extortion money demanded by the syndicate.
The attack on Sahsi occurred just a day before the shooting at Channi Nattan’s Canadian house. Police investigation into both incidents is currently underway, and security measures have been enhanced to protect potential targets within the Indo-Canadian community.
The Bishnoi Gang’s Reach
The Lawrence Bishnoi gang, led by Lawrence Bishnoi (who has been imprisoned since 2014), is known for controlling extensive criminal operations internationally, including in Canada. The gang engages in extortion, targeted killings, drug trafficking, and armed violence.
The group gained international notoriety following the 2022 killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. Due to its transnational criminal activities, the Canadian authorities have designated the Bishnoi gang as a terrorist entity, highlighting the severe challenge it poses to law enforcement agencies in regions with large Punjabi diaspora populations.
