In a major boost to the sports infrastructure of South Haryana, the Mahendragarh district administration has finalized a 14-acre plot of land for the construction of a modern sports stadium. The project, which has been a long-standing demand of local athletes, is now set to enter the construction phase.
-
Land Allotment: The 14-acre site, located in the vicinity of the district headquarters, was officially cleared for use today after a joint inspection by the Revenue and Sports Departments. Officials confirmed that all legal and administrative hurdles regarding the land title have been resolved.
-
Facilities Planned: The proposed stadium is expected to be a multi-purpose complex featuring:
-
Track and Field: An 8-lane synthetic athletics track.
-
Indoor Sports: A dedicated hall for wrestling, kabaddi, and boxing—sports that are highly popular in the Mahendragarh-Rewari belt.
-
Outdoor Grounds: Standard-sized grounds for football and hockey.
-
Spectator Gallery: A modern seating area with a capacity to hold thousands of fans during local tournaments.
-
-
Focus on Rural Talent: During the site visit, officials highlighted that the stadium would serve as a training ground for rural youth from across the district, helping them prepare for national and international competitions. “Mahendragarh has immense talent but lacked facilities. This 14-acre stadium will bridge that gap,” a district sports officer noted.
-
Timeline for Construction: The Public Works Department (PWD-B&R) is currently finalizing the detailed project report (DPR). Tenders are expected to be floated within the next few weeks, with the foundation stone-laying ceremony anticipated shortly thereafter.
-
Employment and Economy: Besides sports, the project is expected to generate local employment during the construction phase and boost the local economy by hosting state-level sporting events in the future.
