Minister Suspends Food Inspector Ravinder Kumar Over Irregularities

Adopting a zero-tolerance stance against negligence and corruption, Haryana’s Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Rajesh Nagar, on Thursday ordered the immediate suspension of a department inspector. The directive was issued during the monthly meeting of the District Public Relations and Grievance Redressal Committee held at the Mini Secretariat in Kurukshetra, where the Minister presided over public complaints.

The official facing the heat, Inspector Ravinder Kumar, was suspended for alleged irregularities in his duties and for displaying a “lackadaisical attitude” by failing to respond to repeated official letters sent by the District Food and Supplies Controller (DFSC). The matter was brought to light through a complaint filed by Sonu Narang, a resident of Ladwa, who alleged serious discrepancies in the operation of ration depots. Narang claimed that supplies for certain villages were being wrongly attached to distant depots, causing severe inconvenience to beneficiaries. Furthermore, he accused the inspector of failing to hand over the charge of gunny bags (bardana) despite being transferred, raising suspicions of misappropriation.

Taking a serious view of these lapses, Minister Nagar stated that it was unacceptable for an inspector to ignore communications from superior officers like the DFSC. “Strict action will be taken against any official found violating departmental rules or causing inconvenience to the public,” Nagar asserted. Beyond the suspension, he instructed the DFSC to seek legal opinion to initiate police complaints against Inspector Ravinder, as well as two other officials—Inspector Naveen and Sub-Inspector Ashok—who were flagged for similar irregularities in previous inquiries.

The meeting, attended by Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena and Superintendent of Police Nitish Agarwal, saw the resolution of 11 out of 17 listed complaints. In other matters, the Minister directed the police to register a case regarding land encroachment in Vishnu Colony and ordered the repair of a shop in Chhota Bazaar that had been allegedly damaged by miscreants.
