Monsoon Alert: Northern Haryana on Heavy Rain Watch; Humid Heat Grips Southern Districts

Aug 1, 2025 | Haryana

The monsoon narrative in Haryana witnessed a sharp north-south divide on August 1, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued conflicting weather alerts for different parts of the state. While northern districts braced for heavy downpours, the southern belt was left sweltering under oppressive humidity.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ North Haryana: Yellow Alert Issued The meteorological center in Chandigarh issued a heavy rainfall warning for the foothills and northern districts.

  • Affected Districts: Panchkula, Ambala, Yamunanagar, and Kurukshetra.

  • The Forecast: Residents have been advised to stay alert for sudden intense spells of rain and potential waterlogging in low-lying areas. The IMD attributed this to the shifting of the monsoon trough northwards towards the foothills of the Himalayas.

Construction of the news: “The monsoon activity is currently concentrated over the northern belt,” stated a senior IMD official. “Districts like Panchkula and Ambala are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours.”

โ˜€๏ธ South Haryana: Humidity and Heat In stark contrast, residents in the southern districtsโ€”including Gurugram, Faridabad, Nuh, and Rewariโ€”faced a challenging day of “sticky heat.”

  • Conditions: With maximum temperatures hovering near normal but humidity levels spiking above 80%, the “feel-like” temperature remained high.

  • Wait for Rain: While clouds played hide-and-seek, significant rainfall evaded these regions on August 1, leaving the administration to deal with power demand spikes rather than flood control.

โš ๏ธ Advisory The disaster management authorities in Panchkula and Ambala have been put on standby. Commuters travelling towards the Shivalik foothills or Himachal Pradesh via Haryana have been warned to check route advisories due to the possibility of landslides or flash floods in the connecting hilly terrain.
