In a significant update on India’s ambitious high-speed rail project, the Ministry of Railways has announced that the stations for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor in Gujarat are “nearing completion.” This milestone brings the country a step closer to its first-ever bullet train service, which is set to transform travel between the two major economic hubs.

According to reports from multiple news outlets, the new stations are being built with a focus on modern design, cultural identity, and seamless connectivity. They are also being equipped with eco-friendly features to align with sustainable infrastructure goals. The project, officially known as the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR), aims to set new standards for passenger comfort and convenience, offering a major upgrade from conventional rail travel.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has stated that the bullet train service will commence “very soon” and is expected to reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just over two hours. The Gujarat portion of the corridor, specifically the 348 km stretch between Vapi and Sabarmati, is targeted for completion by December 2027. The entire 508 km project, including the sections in Maharashtra, is expected to be completed by December 2029.

The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the implementing agency, has confirmed that structural work on the eight stations in Gujarat—Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad, and Sabarmati—has been completed, with finishing activities like interiors and roofing now underway. The project is being developed in collaboration with Japan, which is providing 81% of the estimated ₹1,08,000 crore cost, and will utilize the next-generation E10 Shinkansen trains.
