Panipat: 15 Under-Construction Illegal Shops Demolished by DTP Squad

Dec 5, 2025 | Haryana

The crackdown on illegal constructions in the industrial city of Panipat intensified today as the Town and Country Planning Department targeted commercial structures in a developing unauthorized colony.

  • The Operation: The enforcement squad arrived early in the morning at the site located near the Gohana Road/Assandh Road periphery. Supported by a team of over 40 police personnel to prevent any law-and-order situation, the department deployed two JCB bulldozers to raze the illegal structures.

  • The Target: The primary focus was on a strip of 15 shops that were in various stages of construction—from plinth level to roof-casting. The department had previously issued show-cause notices and restoration orders to the land developers, which were reportedly ignored.

  • Legal Violations: According to the District Town Planner (DTP), the land was being developed as a commercial-cum-residential pocket in violation of the Haryana Development and Regulation of Urban Areas Act, 1975. No prior approval for a colony license or commercial CLU had been obtained from the state government.

  • Advisory to Public: Officials have urged the general public not to invest their hard-earned money in such colonies without verifying the RERA registration and DTCP licenses. “Building shops or houses in these pockets is a total loss for the buyer, as the government will never provide basic amenities like sewage, water, or electricity to unauthorized colonies,” said the DTP during the drive.

  • Future Action: The department has identified several other illegal colonies in Panipat and neighboring districts. Similar demolition drives are scheduled for the coming weeks to prevent the haphazard urban sprawl of the city.
