A long-standing family feud over ancestral land took a violent turn in Risalu village on Tuesday, as a couple was mercilessly thrashed in broad daylight. The incident, which was reportedly triggered by the installation of security cameras, has led to a police crackdown on several family members.

The Bone of Contention: The victim, Manisha, informed the police that her husband, Jagmohan, is the sole legal heir to his late father’s land. However, his cousins and other relatives have allegedly been trying to forcibly occupy the property, which is currently under a court-ordered stay (Status Quo).

The CCTV Flashpoint: The assault occurred when Jagmohan and Manisha hired technicians to install CCTV cameras to protect their home. The accused relatives reportedly objected to the cameras, fearing their activities would be recorded.

The Assault: According to the FIR, the relatives arrived at the house, hurled abuses, and threatened to smash the cameras. When the couple protested, they were dragged out of their home and into the street, where they were punched and kicked.

Medical & Legal Action: The injured couple was rushed to the Panipat Civil Hospital for medical examination. Based on their statement, the Sector 29 Police Station has booked seven people, including cousins Aman and Gaurav, and relatives Santram, Pushpendra, and Bimla.
Police Statement: “We have registered a case under relevant sections for assault and criminal intimidation. The dispute is over land inheritance, and we are investigating the role of all named individuals,” said the Investigating Officer from Sector 29 Thana.
